The former residence of Huang Kecheng, one of the ten senior generals of People's Liberation Army, is located in Xiaqing village, Santang township, Yongxing county, Hunan province. It was built in 1886 and covers an area of more than 170 square meters. It’s an ancient dwelling with southern Hunan characteristics. There is a tofu-making room, utility rooms and others behind the former residence. You will see the daily necessities and objects that Huang Kecheng and his family used when they lived together during his youth.
Huang Kecheng was born here on October 1, 1902 and spent his childhood and adolescence here. In 1920, he pursued his study out of home. Then he returned to his hometown in October 1927 to lead a riot and carried out guerrilla wars.
He left here in October 1928 to devote himself to the liberation of the Chinese people.
In July 1952, Huang returned to his hometown where he had been away for 24 years to conduct surveys of rural areas. The former residence was fully repaired in 1998 and listed as a provincial cultural relics protection unit in May 2002.
